NEPTUN RESORT

This five-star resort, nestled just paces from the Romanian coastline, comprises a central pavilion and a cluster of twelve luxurious villas. The central building, drawing inspiration from billowing sails, takes on an organic, almost fluid form. Cascading terraces extend outwards, seemingly dancing in the summer breeze. Despite its initial impression of solidity, reminiscent of the dramatic sea cliffs, the design cleverly employs a play of solids and voids.

This allows the building to "breathe" naturally, providing ample shade during the hot summer months. Extensive glazing is incorporated, ensuring both privacy and protection from the sun's rays through the use of strategically placed brises-soleil. These exterior sunshades, crafted in a hue that echoes the local stone cladding the entire facade, create a harmonious aesthetic. A central core of glass, organically shaped, serves as a visual connection to the surrounding verdant landscape.

The twelve villas are carefully dispersed amongst the existing oak and maritime pine trees, minimizing disruption to the native flora. This approach fosters a village-like atmosphere with a central open space for gathering, offering stunning views of the main building and the adjacent vegetation. The dispersed layout ensures privacy for each villa and its residences, with dedicated entrances and carefully curated views.

The architectural style of the villas draws inspiration from the area's modernist heritage, particularly the protocol villas, yet incorporates a touch of contemporary luxury. Local travertine stone, the same material used for the main building, clads the exteriors of the villas and continues seamlessly within the residences, establishing a unifying material language across the entire resort.

Cumulus wins 3rd prize @ ”Colentina Lakes” Competition

The competition aimed to develop the landscaping of the Colentina lakeshores over the entire length comprised in the 2nd District. By analyzing the geographical context we discover that Bucharest is not a flat city. Actually, the flat does not exist, there is always a slope of a few centimeters, of a few meters or sometimes of even 10 meters. Therefore, our proposal follows to rediscover the subtle slopes.
